Object permanence is a stage in a baby’s development where they learn that objects persist, even when they can’t be seen. There is a pagan belief that time is a wheel that goes around and around. It’s true that things change, and every year is different. But if you pay attention, the feelings and experiences that resonate with you come back again and again. This comic is a literal interpretation of that idea. I’ve searched through journals, time-stamped digital photos, emails, Facebook, ticket stubs, and receipts that had been used as bookmarks to make a list of what I was doing/thinking/feeling on as many days of my life as possible. I’m making comics about the days that stand out to me as having funny, sad, and/or odd coincidences. Something that emerged very quickly was how, no matter how much the details of my life have changed, I’m still very much the same person I’ve always been.
